Born in France in 1973 in the Haute-Savoie region, Martine Favre lead a rather solitary childhood that brought her, early on, to art and drawing as a way of finding herself. Animals from a neighbor’s farm, calves, cows and pigs, were for her an inspiration that opened for her a contemplative Alice in Wonderland world. In 2005, Martine left France to cross the Atlantic Ocean and settled in Quebec.
Spontaneous and passionate by nature, Martine chooses acrylic as her main medium to express her heartfelt impulses because it let her “build up” her colors, while playing with techniques and material, and gave her freedom of movement. The freshness and originality of her engravings and sculptures will also no doubt seduce you.
In her paintings, Martine Favre stands out by the intensity of her colors and bold contrasts. In a contemporary figurative style, her light yet forceful canvases take you into another dimension, where the world of plants dances a controlled pictorial letting go. A tranquil force breathes through this plant and animal world with its contoured bodies and a powerful inner life emerges vibrating to the songs of the pigments.
“I wish this to be a tribute to the life that vibrates in each parcel of matter, in each Being, an homage to Mother Earth who welcomes and nourishes us. I hope to offer a fresh look at what is here and now, around us and in us … so that we can perceive once again the spark of life that vibrates in every living being, every ant, tree and blade of grass. An open door to life beyond form, to the Self inside the Whole and the Whole inside the Self. A space for the expression of our Being in its true nature, in its spontaneity, freshness, joy and luminosity. With humility, I wish to convey this to you … my colorful vision of the world … ”
